June 6, 2022

Hey folks!
Is it June already?? How?? Somehow I’ve been posting to this blog for three months now. Doesn’t feel real.
Got a short and sweet post for you today, just a few updates I want to let you know about.
Update #1
I’m officially a member of Editors Canada! I’m going to update my site and socials with that information, but you blog readers get the first official announcement of the news. You won’t find me in their directory – that’s something that I’ll likely join later – but I plan on soaking up what they have to offer, as well as what their partners (like the Editorial Freelancers Association, or EFA) have to offer. I’m very excited to have taken this next step in my editing career 🙂
Update #2
A tiny shift in what I offer. While I’m going to keep offering the same services for poetry – developmental editing, copy editing, proofreading, and collection organization – I’m going to focus solely on copy editing and proofreading for short fiction. So no more developmental editing for that content, at least for now. I might offer it again in the future, so keep an eye out!
Update #3
A non-editing update. Remember a couple weeks ago I posted about struggling to write the start of my WIP? I’ve made a breakthrough! I looked through my notes for random scene ideas I’d come up with, wrote them on cue cards, and organised them in order on my floor. Then I filled in the gaps with other cue cards (sometimes simply with “action scene,” which I then figured out the specifics for later) until I had the semblance of a high-level outline. And for the very first time, I can clearly see the whole story. It’s no longer a meh beginning, then cloudy uncertainty, then part of the final scene. It feels like an actual, proper book!
TL;DR
- I’m officially a member of Editor’s Canada.
- Poetry editing services remain the same, but I will no longer offer developmental editing for short fiction, only copy editing and proofreading.
- I figured out how to move forward in my WIP!
There you have it! Three quick updates for your Monday morning. I hope you all have an incredible week! 🙂
