Why Doesn’t Every Editor Post Their Editing Rates?

Short and simple today 😊

Something people often search for when seeking out an editor are standard editing rates or how much a given editor charges. An understandable search! But note that while you’re likely to find articles and resources on the standard rates editors charge (the EFA has a great guide), you might not find a specific editor’s rates on their platforms.

Why not?

Well, depends on the editor and how they charge. For example, if an editor charges by the word, they might very well put their rates on their website – the price won’t change until they up their rates, after all, and that change would be reflected on their site.

But other editors, like myself, often need to get a feel for the project before they can provide a quote. I, like many others, charge by the project in most cases. And every project is different! So it doesn’t make sense for me to post my rates, since they fluctuate given the task.

Of course, other editors might not advertise their rates for other reasons, but this is the one I know the best.

It can be intimidating reaching out to an editor when their rates aren’t visible, but don’t let that stop you! We’re prepared to have that conversation, and won’t be offended if our quote doesn’t fit your budget. We can work with you to figure out a way to make it work, or we’ll send you along to continue your search.

So if you’re interested in working with me, go ahead and reach out!
